The pair first met in 1989 at New Mexico Repertory when they were both performing together in a theatre production. Christopher McDonald was dating Geena Davis at the time and although they got engaged, the relationship could not exist for more than five years.

All four of Christopher and Lupe’s children are pursuing a successful career as per their interests. Their son Jackson completed his degree in music production from California State University in Fullerton where he served as a stage manager. According to his social media pages, he is now a singer at Pacific Chorale and Hour of Power.
Taking about Hannah, she completed her schooling at Rim of the World High School. After that, she enrolled at the University of Limerick followed by the Dodge College of Film & Media Arts where she acquired her BFA.
The third child Rosie is an actor and a social media star. She has posted a lot of videos on her YouTube channel where she has showcased her skills.
The youngest child of McDonald’s family Ava has preferred to keep her life away from the limelight. She completed her graduation in 2023 and further details about her remain unknown.

In the initial phases, Christopher McDonald portrayed minor roles on television shows. He later gained recognition for his performance as Matt Collins in the NBC sitcom, Walter & Emily, and Joey DeRuzza in another sitcom, Good Advice. He was additionally featured in films such as The Black Room and The Boys Next Door.
His filmography included Family Law where he appeared as Rex Weller between 1999 and 2002. He has voiced certain characters in famous animated shows throughout his career. Christopher has also played the role of Mr. Carter in Once Upon a Time in Venice.
